G-Shock GDF100-1B (GDF100-1BCR) : UnBoxing

Another fantastic bargain I picked up on my holidays this year!

I have been keeping an eye on the Casio G-Shock GDF100 Series on Amazon, eBay and a few other watch retailers that I could find stocking in the UK, however prices were increasing on a weekly basis, then I came across this little puppy in the Florida Mall, a happy day it was!

It matches my requirements for a watch perfectly, a big, cool, G-Shock.

photo P1060774_zpse52651d9.jpg photo P1060775_zps9de91e7b.jpgThe watch itself does what you expect G-Shocks to do, be big, be tough and keep the time, everything else / anything else is a bonus.

This model (GDF-1001B) has an inverted display, illuminated by a blue black light, in daylight it is easy to read and in the dark the new blue light makes the display simple to read, the inverted displays are often difficult to read in the dark using a traditional backlight.  As well as aiding in the reading of the display the blue backlight is a nice change and looks great!

The thermometer is a nice touch but its position against the arm, or under a cuff basically reads skin temperature, taking it off and leaving it for 30 to allow it to acclimate isn’t really an option.

The barometer is a bit more accurate although to be fair I have no use for it, nor do I fully understand it although I like it anyway.  I understand the Altimeter and when calibrated to sea level it is pretty accurate and nice touch, and at least I’ll always now where sea level is.

The watch is comfortable, fits well, sits well, and would be comparable in size on the wrist to a GA-100 series, the face being made bigger by the sensor.  People have queried as to whether the sensor being located on the inside of the arm is uncomfortable, however I can assure you it goes totally un-noticed.

Another great G-Shock from the masters of tough!
