Yamaha FZ6 (2006 Fazer) Rear Rack Fitting

I picked myself up a rear rack for the bike this week, basically so I can stick a top box on it, in turn enabling me to throw a helmet or two in there if and when I park up, or pack stuff to take with me, such as a picnic!

The first thing I realised was it isn’t as easy as just getting a box, a rear frame needed purchased. Now to make things even more complicated, the type of frame you buy determines the type of box you can use, and who makes it. So if you want a GIVI then you need a frame that takes a givi box. Although GIVI make two different boxes, ‘Monolock’ and ‘Monokey.’ One Givi frame will take either, one is specific. See how it starts to get complicated!

So for me I decided to go for a genuine Yamaha rear frame. It too restricts me to a GIVI Monolock type box, however having spoken with the dealer I learnt that to fit the GIVI frame I actually would have to strip down the rear of th bike a bit, not my kinda work to be honest. The genuine Yahama part bolts straight on and was the same price (a few £££s cheaper actually).

So that was it, Yamaha frame with a 45l Givi Monolock box. The frame was purchased, arrived 5 days later, now it is fitted I have to find the cash for the actual box.

The fitting process of this box is actually really simple, fit the protective stickers and bolt on the frame, took me about 20 minutes. Great result!

So here is a little pictorial of the process if you are interested. Remember it was done in the evening I will get some pics of the bike with it fitted in better lighting added, but in the meantime it gives you the idea of the work required for this option of frame for a 2006 FZ6.

1. Unbox the beast :

2. Fit the protective stickers :

3. Bolt ‘er on!

One point to note, it is not a screw driver you need but a hexagon torque tool.

This blog covers three things (mainly - I'll post other interesting things too) - motorcycling, technology and photography. The photography is mainly linked to the other two. So sit back, get a Coke and a smile, read and enjoy! Comments are welcome, so if you want to say something - please, feel free! Check me out on : Twitter : @TomBoyNI Instagram : BMWR1200GSA2010

Hi, do you still have the part number for the rack?

  2. Donny says:

Thanks I’m gonna order one from my local dealer. This is sleek.

did the rack and box still allow good visability of rear brake light …just i am looking a rack and box similar

The box and rack do ultimately sit out from the brake light, however lateral viewing of the brake light was unaffected as far as I was aware.

To be far I got rid of the bike shortly after this post, however I had no complaints, nor did I receive any.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
